1/3/13 We welcome R.L. Wurz Company

Regular customers of Dow Corning recently received notification that Dow Corning silicone products would be ordered from, and shipped by R.L. Wurz Company, in Cleveland, OH.  Customers were assured that pricing would remain the same.  Service, due to in house inventory of customer products based on historical data provided by Dow Corning, would be improved.  And, due to R.L. Wurz wide range of products, the potential for the "one stop shopping" situation was a positive as well.

R.L. Wurz Company began in Cleveland in 1930.  Ray Wurz was a pioneer in the development of porcelain steel building during the Depression.  Times were difficult, but Ray's engineering systems got the attention of Standard Oil (SOHIO), and Ray's business grew.

Following World War II, returning GI's were ready to buy new cars and hit the road.  Gas stations started to pop up nation wide, and porcelain panel construction was the design of choice for constructing these service stations.  Soon, the R.L Wurz Company became the largest construction company utilizing porcelain panels in Ohio.

In 1955, R.L. Wurz constructed offices and a warehouse to supply the demand for products.  With a solid reputation already in place, GE approached the company and a relationship was established to distribute silicone sealants.  Distribution of related construction products grew from there.

With a building resurgence of Cleveland in the 80's and 90's, R.L Wurz became a significant player in supplying product for projects like the BP Building, Jacobs Field, Brown's Stadium and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Today, with the leadership of Tom Levelle and Dan Looby, R.L. Wurz Company is continuing to grow.  Representation and distribution of products from Tremco, 3M, OSI, Citadel and other well known companies has led to construction of 5,500 square foot warehouse addition.

If you have questions about Dow Corning products, or any of the other products distributed by R.L. Wurz, feel free to contact Dan Looby by phone or email, or contact your SysCom representative.

11/2/12 Vytron Introduces Cellular PVC Shapes

Rick Vinzant, Sales Manager at our vinyl extruder, Vytron Corporation, reports that after many years of R&D with rigid cellular pvc, Vytron's rigid pvc supplier has finally introduced a cost competitive cellular compound that extrudes well on Vytron's equipment.

Four new profile dies have been cut and product has been run.  Two small trim beads are used for drop in wood sash glazing.  These sections are typically miter cut and stapled into the wood sash, with the sash then being primed or vinyl clad.  Two larger shapes are trim pieces for wood windows as well.

For more information on these shapes or new shape development, connect with Vytron on our links page, or talk with your SysCom representative.

1/3/13 LAMATEK Sends a Shout Out to Aluminum Window Fabricators

We often think of the world of windows  as being based on fabrication of wood, vinyl and fiberglass shapes.  However, aluminum shapes once dominated the industry and still play a strong roll in the commercial and recreational vehicle markets.

LAMATEK has a large variety of products that are popular with the engineering and fab guys when they work with aluminum extrusions:

ProtekShipping Corners
ExExtruded foam profiles protect painted window surfaces from being scratched during shipping and handling. Simply slide the corner over your window profile. We've even provided a removable adhesive inside to help keep them in place.  Profiles are available to protect nailing fins too.

Protek foam absorbs multiple impacts and resists moisture.  And if you're producing the end product and doing the installation, Protek can be re-used a number of times to keep costs in line.

Butyl Sealing Gaskets
Butyl gaskets combine the properties of closed-cell neoprene or closed-cell polyethylene with the sealing capabilities of butyl rubber.  Butyl gaskets are supplied cut to sized, kiss cut and shipped on rolls with the matrix stripped for easy peel and stick application on the manufacturing line.  Forget the sticky, hard to handle butyl gaskets of old!

SDL Muntin Tape
LAMATEK's muntin tape is a highly engineered product, designed to work with a multitude of muntin bar materials (Including KynarTM painted aluminum) and glass surfaces.  Unlike competitive materials, our muntin tape does not require the use of toxic saline pre treatments to perform as advertised.

SilverTape High Bond Tape
High performance acrylic tapes are now available for a variety of applications.  LAMATEK
reminds customers that this product is not specifically designed for muntin applications.  This is an industrial bonding tape that can be used for both interior and exterior application.  Uses include attaching trim pieces, shower door component bonds, kick panel trim bonding to flat panels, and in some cases, replacing screws and rivets.
